About

Bookkeeping Mildura- Deakin Data Bookkeeping

Hello, my name is Kerry Scobie.

I am a local woman from the Sunraysia district.  My family are cereal growers from Morkalla.  I am the eldest of four children.   My father died when I was 15, and my mother died when I was 26; both from smoking related illnesses. As a result I don’t smoke!

I finished my secondary education in 1985 at St Josephs’ College in Mildura.

I then worked around the district at various places, gaining experience in different industries, then decided to travel round Australia, but only got as far as Darwin, where we stayed for two years. During the wet season I worked as a bar maid in the local Recreational Club.  Not long after this job had started, I was approached about being a reception in the local underground mine; Woodcutters Joint Venture.

I returned home to Mildura in 1990 to get married, and then we moved to Wemen, once again extending my experience, then to Andriskie’s Vineyards at Paringi NSW.  At this time I had my first child, two years later my second; both boys.

In 1996, I went back to work at Sarnia in Mildura, within a short space in time I was tallying and in charge of dispatch, logistics, and co-ordinating orders with Exporters and Domestic Agents, and Transport Agents.

In 1998, my husband and I purchased a table grape property; 20 acres, of various varieties. I continued to work at Sarnia, as well as on the property. I had my third son around this time.

Sarnia moved their establishment out to Irymple, and continued processing citrus. I attained my Forklift Truck Licence, and became Floor Supervisor; second in charge. November 2005 there was a workplace death, the result of this was for me to step up into the Supervisor’s role; and a very steep learning curve as to OHS rules and regulations.

April 2006, Sarnia was sold to Sandalwood Ridge Fruits, were I continued until the end of 2007, as the Leading Hand/QA/Machinery Operator/Forklift Truck Operator/Female First Aid Officer/Etc.

Dec 2007, seen me enter into study at TAFE in Mildura; Cert III in Financial Services – Accounts Clerical. On completion of this I enrolled in Cert IV Financial Services – Bookkeeping through AFIA in Sydney. This Course was completed in August 2008.

Outside these roles I also love gardening; cooking and spending as much time as possible horse riding. I take great pride in all of these passions of mine.  It’s never a dull moment around my house between the boys, with motorbikes, 3 horses, and 3 cats; there is no time to get bored!!

Around January 2009 with the support of some fantastic people, I started my own business – Deakin Data Bookkeeping, and then I found out I was pregnant with my fourth child.

Which in the long ran, put the bookkeeping on hold a little. To me the end result; is I have been able to fine tune the study I had done, and put into practice. I felt as it was just a year to strengthen my knowledge, and to gauge what clients were after from their bookkeepers!

Robert Samual Scobie was born in September 2009 to a very busy; and noisy household, to say the least!

I have found that because of my broad range of interests and activities I am able to converse with ease on many topics; not saying that I can talk a lot either!
